02 Jun Prepare for the Adjustment of Going Back to an Office
Even though the past year has been stressful, the time at home has provided an opportunity to recharge and prepare for what happens next. For employees preparing to leave their makeshift work areas at home, the adjustment of going back to the office can be a challenge. Some people appreciated the break from traveling back and forth to work. Waiting five minutes to take a left when you’re in a hurry is never fun. Others enjoyed making lunch at home and putting their feet up while they worked. Yes, they had to hunker down for months with the same people, but at least they were safe and still employed. Now the tide has turned and it is time to go back to work, physically.
For some, this transition can be stressful. It is best to mentally prepare for the return to work, so that you can give yourself time to readjust. The first adjustment will be getting out of bed at least an hour earlier than you have been for the last year. That extra hour of sleep made so much difference in your morning routine. Not looking forward to driving to work again? Well before you know it you’ll be vying for that lane to get on the highway and navigate your way to the office with stale air and fluorescent lights. The same people will be there and all of a sudden it will seem normal again. There is definitely something to be said for that.
